The Review

At first glance, the Electro-Voice ND76 looks like a pretty standard dynamic microphone. It is when you get up close and personal with it when you begin to see all of the smaller details. The grille is made with a Memraflex material, which is in place to help the mic withstand the harshest of treatment. Even when you drop the microphone from a good height, you won’t have to worry about the grille getting dented.

The body is made completely out of aluminum and die-cast zinc, helping to add to its overall durability and robustness. The dark black color gives it a sleek and professional look as well. It doesn’t come with any buttons or knobs on it, which helps to keep it feeling comfortable in the hands. You don’t have to worry about accidentally hitting a switch during your performance.

Speaking of performing, it feels excellent in the hand. It is lightweight and slim, weighing approximately 1.25 pounds. Of course, do note that it is a wired microphone, so you will need to plug it in with an XLR.

In terms of audio quality, it excels with vocals. The microphone combines a shock-mounted capsule with a large-diaphragm dynamic capsule, which provides a sound that is clear, crisp, and balanced overall. There is a humbucking coil on the inside to make sure that you don’t have to deal with pesky hum in bad environments, giving you the best possible noise isolation on just about any stage. Of course, we can’t rule out the fact that the cardioid pattern helps with that too.

The ND76 doesn’t have any problems with proximity effect, so if you are a dynamic performer who likes to move around and get really close to the mic, you won’t have to stress about out of control low frequencies.
